Shared Space series is a group of drawing performances investigating the social environment in which we live and engages with the awareness of pleasures but also anxieties and fears concerning safe/unsafe human relationships. It explores a mutual relationship, friendship and intimacy. (Projects in the series: Tablecloth, Shared Space, Shared Space New York, Safety Zone Szczecin, The Bench, The Conversation).
The essence of the performance is to archive/document, using the process of drawing, a series of relaxed meetings/chats with participants, who by visiting the gallery (performance space) share their presence=energy, time, stories and the space with me.
Drawing around another person’s body (touching someone with the hand holding a drawing tool) can be discomforting and requires a degree of trust, openness and willingness by the subject to share one’s personal space. The finished work becomes a linear record of a number of interactions (densely drawn areas) while the empty voids between drawn areas hold the memory of the people’s presence.
The drawing process is done with pigment pen on various surfaces.
